Overview

    Our expertise in high-speed physical layer (PHY) of USB and SATA formats, as well as excellence in RAID hardware design enables JMicron to provide a wide selection of data storage controllers. By combining these controllers as building blocks, customers can not only configure their hard disk drives (HDDs), but solid state drives (SSDs) as well.

    JMicron’s USB storage device controllers have enhanced data transmission performance by the USB Attached SCSI data transmission protocol (UASP), as well as an associated internal hardware accelerator that maximizes sequential and random data read/write rates. All USB storage device controllers are required to go through the USB compliance test before they are released to market to ensure full compatibility with prevailing USB hosts and SATA devices.


JMicron's Solutions

Single Bay Controller

    JMicron’s single bay controllers support a wide selection of host interfaces, such as USB2.0, USB3.0, and USB3.1; as well as to devices like SATA 3Gbps, SATA 6Gbps, eSATA, FireWire, or the IEEE 1394. They can be applied on a variety of devices such as external USB direct access storage (DAS) units, USB-native HDDs, smart TV storage devices, game console storage devices, Window-to-go (WTG) applications, and others.


Two- and Multi-Bay Controllers

    JMicron provides a series of two-bay bridge controllers for external multiple-bay HDDs, RAID, and SATA Port Multipliers and SATA Port Selectors to address a variety of applications and form factors. For example, the JMS562, a multi-configuration USB3.0 to multi-SATA 6Gbps port controller, can bridge the data transmission between a USB3.0 host and three SATA devices--while supplying one USB3.0 and eSATA port to the host and two SATA 6Gbps ports to the SATA devices.

SATA Port Multiplier and RAID Controller

    A Serial ATA port multiplier (SATA PM) enables multiple SATA devices to link to a single SATA host IC, and has been widely used in set-top-boxes, media players, and network-attached storage (NAS) products. JMicron deliberately designs its SATA PM to act as a SATA port selector (SATA PS) by configuring it at its initialization. When it is set up as a SATA PS, the controller makes a number of SATA host ICs to connect to a single SATA device. JMicron has supplied 1:2 and 1:5 PM, or 2:1 and 5:1 PS, of both SATA 3Gbps and 6Gbps. These controllers include the PM or PS of SATA 3Gbps, such as the JMB320 and JMB321, and SATA 6Gbps, such as the JMB572 and JMB575

    In addition to the SATA PM, JMicron has enhanced the data protection and the performance between the SATA devices and the SATA host to JMicron’s RAID series controllers featuring 1:2 and 1:5 RAID0, RAID1, RAID5 and RAID10 of the SATA 3Gbps. The RAID series controllers have been built in some NAS having RAID storage devices, video surveillance systems and HDD Duplicators.

  • JMS562 Super Speed USB3.0 & eSATA GEN III to dual SATA GEN III ports with RAID bridge controller
    JMS561U is a Supper Speed to Dual SATA GenIII Ports bridge chip with specific feature: high performance stand alone CLONE function. It integrated 2 independent SATA channels and a micro-processor. With proper setting, the chip can be configured as 1 : 2 Serial ATA III Port Multiplier or hardware 1 : 1 CLONE function.
  • JMS561 Super Speed USB3.0 to Dual SATA gen III Ports with RAID bridge controller
    JMS561 is a Supper Speed to Dual-SATA Gen III Ports bridge chip. It integrated 2 independent SATA channels and a micro-processor. With proper setting, the chip can be configured as 1 to 2- ports Serial ATA III Port Multiplier or hardware striping & mirror.
  • JMS572 1 to 2-ports Serial ATA III Port Multiplier or a 2 to 1-port Serial ATA III Port Selector
    JMB572 is a single chip. It integrated three independent SATA channels and a micro-processor. With proper setting, the chip can be configured as 1 to 2- ports Serial ATA II Port Multiplier or a 2 to 1-port Serial ATA II Port Selector. JMB572 contains 15 GPIOs which can be configured as various standard interfaces. It also has the capability to load external firmware code to extend its functionality.
